My First Flea!

I hope you had a fabulous weekend, friends!

I had myself a nice little adventure...complete with my first flea market! I know it sounds crazy, but I've never been to a flea market before. I cannot believe what I was missing out on!! Now, I knew fleas were like the mecca for pickers like me but know I get it. I REALLY get it.

Before going to the flea, I had coffee with a photographer friend, Stacy Able, who is based out of Columbus, Indiana. I used to work with her at my day job, and at some point we lost touch with each other. It was so great to reconnect, and I cannot wait to start doing some work with her. She is an AMAZING photographer...if you haven't seen her work, you should check out her site. So lovely, and full of grace. We chatted a bit about doing some styled shoots in the future, so you might have some fancy photos to look forward to!!

I followed up my visit with a trip to various antique shops I hadn't been to yet. It was quite an adventure trying to get around town with just my little handwritten directions. hehe. I couldn't find two of the places I was looking for, but I still managed to score a few great finds! I'm just going to tell you that I have looking for a few of these items for QUITE some time and I am excited to share them with you...later this week! Haha! I have to leave some suspense!

My man and I ended the day at some local fleas that I had been dying to get to. Every time I have driven by them in the past, they weren't open. But we got lucky this time!! I have to say...that I was "junk drunk" as the American Pickers call it. So many amazing things, and at such great prices. I wanted to buy everything! But I was on a budget so I grabbed a few items that were on my wish list and made plans to come back in a few weeks.

I do love the fleas, but the haggling and approaching a stranger about items that have probably been in their possession for quite awhile is something I'll have to get used to. I always feel so shy!! I've always had a hard time striking up a conversation with people I don't know, and trying to buy something from someone made it so much worse! Of course, a few people made it easy on me by offering such a low price to begin with, which was pretty nice. In the end, I got some great pieces and learned a lot. The culture of fleas is so amazing, and I love all of the people and how friendly and chatty they are. People just love to talk about their stuff, especially if it will mean a sale in the end!

I cannot wait to get back out there and learn more about the art of haggling. In the meantime, check in later this week for a post about my finds!

A Special Project featuring Jessica Swift

Okay, ladies and gentleman. I have a very special announcement for you today. Today is all about a lovely lady who is trying to launch a VERY special project...and she needs your help!!

Miss Jessica Swift has launched her Kickstarter project, to make these snazzy rainboots, and she needs your help to get it going! Even the smallest donation will help her meet her goal. Now, these rainboots are not only one-of-a-kind, adorned with illustrations by Jessica herself, but they ALSO have the sweetest secret messages inside to help keep you afloat while you go about your day. How awesome is that? I know, pretty awesome.

I have to tell you, that it is because of Jessica and the other Spring girls that this blog exists. This lady, she was one of a very select few people who inspired me to get off my bum and get out there to take life my the horns. It is because of her that I have changed the way that I think about life and my role in this world. And this is one of the little ways that I can give back, by sharing her project with you. So please help me give back, for all of the inspirational goodness she has to offer to you and the rest of the world! The world needs these boots!

If you'd like to help my friend out, you can go HERE and donate. Each donation comes with a small reward, if you choose to accept it. :)

Thank you friends! Your contribution is VERY much appreciated, and means so much to me. Have a lovely weekend!

Antiques + Vintage: Finds

Each week, I manage to friend some of the most amazing items to add to my collection. My inventory is growing fast and I couldn't be more excited! This week I'm featuring some items I picked up over the weekend, that have been on my "want" list for some time. I even picked up a special something for myself!

This beauty is my second vintage radio to be added to my collection. I really do love the style of old radios...and this one works!

This vibrant yellow serving tray would make a great addition to any party! Isn't it so cute? It matches my yellow mesh patio set!

This pretty lady is one of many in my collection. She would look great paired with the scalloped teal beauty I have featured in the past. I love the pretty floral details, especially because of their hand-drawn look. You can't quite tell in this photo, but all of the leaves are gold-flecked...so pretty!

Some old school style...but oh so good! I finally purchased a cute little vintage kitchen scale and old camera. I also added another silver pitcher to my growing collection. And won't this tiny little gold bird cage be so cute as a decorative little detail? It even has a little bird in there!

Last, but not least...a little something for myself. I purchased this beautiful dresser from my local Craigslist. I love the engraved wood plating surrounding the handles, and I especially appreciate the crafstmanship. Do you see how all of the drawers bow out just a bit? The lines on this dresser are beautiful. Isn't it gorgeous?

Well, that's all I have for today! I wish you a joyful day, friends!

Getting Closer to my Dream

Happy Monday to you. I hope your week is off to a great start!

I've got a bad migraine today, so I'm going to keep it short! I have a feeling that my launch is near, friends. I'm almost to the point that I've acquired enough pieces to be able to start renting with confidence that I can provide what someone might be looking for. It has taken many happy hours of endless hunting to find unique items, and I'm so glad to be getting so close to the BIG DAY!

Over the weekend I finalized all of my contracts and policies and did some extensive research into the requirements that I will have to meet to be legitimate and legal. Oh, the fun stuff! hehe. I'm kidding. I don't like dealing with the legal stuff, but it is very fulfilling to know that I got through that part much easier than I had anticipated. What a relief!

If you know anyone in the Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, or Michigan area that might be looking for vintage decor, please send them my way! I am getting so close to my Launch that I can start taking clients any time now. So exciting!

Check back in tomorrow for a peek at my finds from the weekend! Have a lovely day!

More Announcements!

I hope you are having a great start to your week. Did you have a nice weekend?

As I mentioned before, Saturday was my mini-styling photo shoot. One of my good photographer friends drove into town to help me get some great shots of my inventory. We spent several hours hauling everything out of my house and staging it, all the while she was snapping away with my pretty DSLR. My friend Courtney is brilliant with a camera and I am SO glad she was here because the photos are just gorgeous. They're so much better than I could take at the level I am at now!

Now, I have to tell you that I was so excited that this was happening that I was very stupid. Not only did I forget to wear sunscreen, but I neglected to stay hydrated during our adventure. So I was left with sun poisoning for the remainder of the weekend! I know, as a grown adult I should know better. But accidents happen. So please friends, learn from my mistakes and be smart when you're out there enjoying the sunshine!

Alas, I did accomplish two very big goals that I think you'll be excited to hear about. If you didn't already notice...right up there on the menu bar is a new page waiting for you! That's right! I finally added some photos of my inventory! Hooray! I'm so glad Courtney was able to get such amazing shots. We didn't photograph ALL of my items, but we got enough for you to get the idea. I hope you will head over there and check it out! Let me know what you think!

My second goal was to create a Facebook page for re:find Joy. And tadaaa...here it is! Now I have an official page over there where you can "like" me and see news on the go. I'll probably have an ongoing photo gallery there of less official photos and post any smaller news that I might not chat about here. I'm trying to cover all of my bases and have something for everyone! So if you have a Facebook account and want to check it out, I would love to hear from you!

That's it for today friends! I hope you enjoy the new features and I look forward to expanding some more soon! Have a lovely day!
